The Monon Depot Museum., at 211 First Street SW (one block south of Main Street on the Monon Trail) is open all year every Tuesday and Wednesday from 9-12, and 1-5. From March through November, it is also open every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1 - 4 p.m. Open at other times by special appointments. Call 317-846-7117.
The museum is housed in the former Monon Railroad depot built in 1883. Exhibits include many aspects of local history, from the founding of the village of Bethlehem (Carmel), to the mid twentieth century. There are also displays of railroad artifacts and memorabilia. The museum hosts hundreds of school students each year, for whom Depot Docents conduct bus tours of the city and the township. The Depot Museum is open each Carmelfest afternoon for a special open-house.
